Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

One of my absolute favorite things to make with sourdough and for my family is my homemade sourdough cinnamon rolls! I was nervous about making cinnamon rolls as I thought the recipe would be too invasive and I wouldn't have the time, WRONG! Super simple, super yummy!

Okay here's the recipe!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of filtered water

4 cups of organic all purpose flour

1/2 cup of organic coconut oil

1/2 cup of raw local honey

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of baking powder

1 teaspoon of baking soda

2 duck eggs *chicken eggs work too*

1/2 cup of sourdough starter

 Cinnamon filling:

1 cup of softened butter

2 cups of organic brown sugar

4 tablespoons of organic cinnamon

Cream cheese icing:

1 block of organic cream cheese

1/2 cup of heavy cream or 1/4 cup of raw milk

1/2 cup of local maple syrup

2.5 teaspoons of organic vanilla extract or vanilla paste

 Instructions:

1. Mix active sourdough starter, flour, water, honey, eggs and coconut oil, baking soda, baking powder, eggs into a bowl until well combined. I typically do this by hand but you can use a stand mixer as well.

2.) Let the dough sit, covered, for 12 hours in a warm place.

3.) Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Filling:

1.) In a separate bowl combine all of the filling ingredients and mix.

2.) Dust the counter with flour and roll out your dough into a rectangle shape. About 1/4" thick.

3.) Add the filling to the top of the dough and spread evenly.

4.) Roll the dough as tightly as possibly. Pinch the ends to make a proper roll.

5.) Slice your roll into 12 even rolls.

6.) Place the rolls into your well-seasoned cast iron skillet or a baking dish will do.

7.) Bake for 20-25 minutes until the rolls are lightly browned and the dough is cooked all the way through.

Cream Cheese Topping:

1.) In a medium pot over medium heat add cream cheese, cream/milk, maple syrup and vanilla. Stir until combined.

2.) Pour over your cinnamon rolls and enjoy your new favorite treat!
