My Journey To Healing. How I Took Control Of My Health.

My Journey To Healing. How I Took Control Of My Health.

For the past year and a half, I’ve been unwell—and honestly, I didn’t even realize it. My symptoms started during pregnancy with low iron, which can be common. I had fatigue, brain fog, and all the usual things that come with new motherhood, so I brushed it off.

But four months postpartum, I still didn’t feel like myself. I knew something wasn’t right. I started seeing a local naturopath, hoping she would help me get to the root cause. After five months of supplements and no changes in my bloodwork, I realized no one was going to figure this out for me—I had to take my health into my own hands.

I was already eating mostly organic, whole foods, little gluten (only sourdough), and doing everything I thought was right. But my body wasn’t even absorbing most of my nutrients. That’s when I went down a rabbit hole and discovered H. pylori, a bacterial infection that’s super common but rarely talked about. It explained all my symptoms. I requested a test from my primary doctor, and sure enough—it was positive. Im so glad I listened to my intuition and figured it out.

One of the biggest changes I made was following the GAPS diet, which focuses on nourishing the gut with easy-to-digest, nutrient-dense foods like meat stock, pasture-raised meats, fermented foods, and healthy fats. It’s essentially a low-inflammation, whole-foods diet—no sugar, no gluten, no junk. I lost 15 pounds in three weeks, just by fueling my body with homemade meat stock, pasture-raised meats, and organic vegetables. And for the first time in a long time, I started to feel like myself again.

After suffering from this bacterial infection for so long, I’m still healing—but I’d say I’m 80% back to my old self. And the healing wasn’t just about food. I had to heal my nervous system so my body could heal. 2024 was a busy year—having a new baby, running a farm, keeping up with life. Most people don’t realize how destructive stress is to the body, and I was running on empty. So, I took a step back.

I stayed off social media. I spent less time on my phone. I grounded myself. I focused on red light therapy, meditation and prayer, daily walks at sunrise and sunset, salt baths, and reading gut health books. I made time for me again.

What most people won’t admit—it’s hard being an entrepreneur, let alone a farmer. The stress is real. And through this journey, I’ve had to re-evaluate everything. I’ve shifted how I operate, subbing out things I used to do myself. I’m focusing on growing and preserving more of our own food this year, spending more quality time with my kids, and most importantly, putting myself first—because without health, none of this is possible.

Thankfully, our farm has been a huge part of my healing journey. Raising our own animals for clean, high-quality meat, making nutrient-rich broths, and leaning into the power of herbs has reinforced what I’ve always believed—food is medicine.

Did you know that 90% of diseases and health issues start in the gut? Your gut is the foundation of your overall health, affecting everything from digestion to immune function, energy levels, and even mental clarity. If your gut is inflamed or imbalanced, it can lead to chronic fatigue, autoimmune issues, skin conditions, and more. The only way to truly know if your gut is in good shape is by taking a high-quality gut health test to assess imbalances and bacteria like H. pylori. I highly recommend reading rhe book “Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS)” by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. This book was a game-changer for me and has helped countless people heal through food and lifestyle changes.

If you’ve ever struggled with gut health, know that you’re not alone. Healing takes time, but every small step matters. If you’re curious about what’s helped me or want to share your own journey, I’d love to hear from you! ❤️
